A warm invitation for the King Manor community in Duluth, Minnesota.
You Are Welcome Here
There is something quietly powerful about gathering together at the end of the day. When the noise of daily life settles and the evening comes, it creates a natural invitation to pause, reflect, and connect with something greater than ourselves. This Sunday at 6:00 PM, we are opening the doors of the 4th floor community room right here at King Manor, 222 E 2nd Street, Duluth, Minnesota, and we want every member of this community to know: you are warmly and genuinely welcome.
Whether you have attended services like this many times before or this would be your very first time, whether you carry deep faith or honest questions, whether you come in looking for peace or simply looking for people, there is a place for you in that room on Sunday evening.
What Is an Evening Prayer Service?
Evening prayer is one of the oldest forms of communal worship practiced across Christian traditions. Rooted in the ancient practice of Vespers, it marks the closing of the day with gratitude, reflection, and hope. It is typically more intimate and conversational than a morning service, making it a beautiful space for community gathering.
Our Sunday evening service will include three core elements designed to nourish both the spirit and the soul:
Evening Prayer A guided time of spoken and shared prayer to open our hearts, give thanks for the day, and bring our needs and gratitude before God together as a community.
Prayer Requests This is your moment to name what is on your heart. Whether you are carrying concern for a loved one, facing a health challenge, or simply need the support of others, the community will pray with you and for you. No request is too big or too small.
Pastoral Care A dedicated space for personal support, spiritual encouragement, and the kind of care that says: you are not alone. Our pastoral team will be present and available to listen, pray, and walk alongside you.
Homily and Sermon A short, reflective message rooted in Scripture. Evening homilies tend to be conversational and grounded in real life, focused on finding meaning, strength, and encouragement for the days ahead. Expect something thoughtful, practical, and spoken directly to where you are.
Together, these elements create an hour that is both spiritually grounding and genuinely human. Come as you are. Leave encouraged.
Why King Manor?
King Manor is more than a building. It is a community, and communities thrive when they gather. Located in the heart of Duluth at 222 E 2nd Street, King Manor is home to seniors who bring decades of wisdom, resilience, and life experience with them every day. A shared evening of prayer and reflection is one of the most meaningful gifts a community can offer itself.
Research consistently shows that social and spiritual connection are among the strongest contributors to wellbeing in older adults. A 2020 study published in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior found that people who regularly participate in faith communities report significantly lower rates of depression, loneliness, and anxiety. But beyond the statistics, the real truth is simpler: being known, being heard, and being prayed for matters. It has always mattered.
This Sunday evening is an opportunity to experience exactly that, right where you live.

No Experience Necessary
One of the most important things to say about this service is this: you do not need to bring any prior experience with church, prayer, or religious practice. You do not need to know the right words, follow along with a liturgy, or have your faith figured out. Evening prayer is not a performance or a test. It is simply people gathering, speaking honestly, and listening together.
If you have not been part of a faith community in years, or ever, that is completely okay. If you are grieving, or doubtful, or just curious, that is welcomed too. The goal on Sunday evening is not to have all the right answers. It is to show up, be present, and experience what it feels like to have a community around you.
Invite a Neighbor
If you live at King Manor, chances are you share a hallway, a laundry room, or a morning greeting with someone who could benefit from this gathering. Consider knocking on a neighbor's door this week. Slide a note under someone's door. Mention it in passing. Invitations from people we know carry far more weight than any flyer ever could.
Sunday evenings are better together. The 4th floor community room is ready. The community is invited. All that is needed is you.
We Will See You Sunday
This Sunday at 6:00 PM, the 4th floor community room at 222 E 2nd Street will be a space of warmth, prayer, and genuine community. Come find a seat, bring your heart as it is, and let the evening do what evenings do best: slow things down, open things up, and remind us that we belong to one another.
We hope to see you there.
